Blazers Athletic Update: Fall 2022
Written by Athletic Director Jerad Washington:
Sports have gotten off to a great start! Our student athletes’ ability to balance school, athletics, and extracurricular activities has impressed me. So far, we’ve had the opportunity to see siblings play alongside each other and assist or score goals on their birthdays. It was our first year allowing 5th graders to participate in fall athletics, and it seemed like the entire 5th grade came out to join. We also have to shout out the JV parents for bringing the most energy I’ve ever seen or felt at Middle School soccer games. Burgundy Volleyball has shown great enthusiasm and effort each week and improves daily. They host a final match at home on November 3 – so come out in support of the Volleyball Blazers! They’ve showcased their skills and teamwork in a couple of competitions thus far this season. Their growth as student-athletes has been remarkable to watch. Our Cross Country team has been up against some tough competition and competed for the championship on October 24. As the team shreds times after each meet, our coaches and I are all proud of their perseverance.
Most of all, I appreciate all our coaches’ dedication this fall as they represented Burgundy with passion and enthusiasm. I am grateful for the faculty and staff support as well. The playoffs for varsity soccer begin November 2 (our Blazers haven’t lost a soccer game in 4 years). Basketball season is right around the corner, so please begin to plan accordingly, as we will share Middle School sign-ups shortly.
In addition, Athletics is looking to create a small rehabilitation station/cardio space in the gym and is interested in any unused workout equipment you may have around your house or in storage. We are looking to get stronger, faster, and healthier as a program. If you are interested in donating bands, cardio equipment, yoga mats, rolling pins, and any other unused equipment, please email athletics with a picture. Our space isn’t massive, so we must be strategic in donation selection and placement. We appreciate the community for supporting our students through their Burgundy athletics experience.
