In an effort to alleviate some concerns about safety of student and adult pedestrians in the Middle School parking lot, we are making traffic in this lot one way—in near the basketball hoop (closest to campus entrance) and out near the Gym and Middle School entrance. We are excited to announce the co-chairs for the 2018 Auction. Thank you Jane Hyatt Thorpe, parent of Carolina Jane Sramek, 2/3 Buckeyes, and Betsy Erickson, parent of Nevie, 1st Sheep, and Beezer, JK Chicks! They will lead the charge for Burgundy’s primary fundraiser for student financial aid. You’ll hear much more about the auction after winter break. The 8th grade class recently enjoyed a tour of the new building under construction; this group stands on the stage in the theater and community room. As work progresses on the Campus Commons, workers will be replacing some fencing with other barriers, including orange plastic snow fencing and lines of caution tape. Kayla and her familyWe’re happy this week to welcome back Kayla (Parton) Khan in Viceroys! Kayla has been on maternity leave, at home with her son Asher, since the beginning of the school year. Jazmine Jackson has been our sub in Viceroys during this time. We thank her for her work there! Fortunately, we don’t have to say goodbye to Jazmine. She will remain at Burgundy as an in-house sub.

Box Tops We had healthy numbers for our fall 2017 Box Top collection, with 1,185 Box Tops sent in. Each Box Top is worth 10 cents, so that means with collection netted $118.50 for Burgundy’s annual giving fund, which supports professional development, program and instruction, and financial aid. Box Top coordinator Meghan Semiao created a chart showing the collections for the last three years. Blossom the turkey and her canine friend Minnow The Burgundy barnyard may soon be home to a rescue turkey! Blossom is currently being fostered by Abbie Hubbard of the Animal Welfare League of Alexandria, who fostered rooster Chickpea before he came to Burgundy. The fall season was filled with excitement, heartache, nail-biting plays and great soccer touches. The Coed Varsity soccer team demonstrated true character in times of adversity and made incredible improvement both technically and tactically on the field. In the varsity season opener, a 6-5 loss against Alexandria Country Day School, they showed they were going to be a competitive and entertaining team to watch.
