Middle School Production Updates

Friday, October 13, 2017

Our 6th graders are busy preparing for Burgundy on Broadway (BOB). For our BOB productions, songs from Broadway shows are drawn together around a theme. This year's is "It's All Greek to Me!" Each student plays a vital role in this ensemble production. Cathy Manley is the show's music director, Emily "EJ" Jonas '03 directs theater and choreography, and Austin Fodrie is the technical director. The BOB shows will be Thursday and Friday, November 16 and 17, and the performances this year will be held at Aldersgate United Methodist Church, 1301 Collingwood Road, Alexandria (Fort Hunt). Aldersgate hosts a community theater presenting classic plays and musicals, and the church's Wesley Hall includes a professional stage.

The 7th grade students will add a playwriting unit to their curriculum! They will be writing and then performing an original play inspired by studies in their core academic classes. Their show will take place in the winter, with new show dates Thursday and Friday, February 15 and 16. Please update your calendars! This shift accommodates the Model UN trip to Williamsburg, Virginia later in February, allowing both 7th and 8th grade students to participate. The 7th grade play is planned to take place in the 400-seat Richard Kauffman Auditorium at the Lee Center, 1108 Jefferson Street, Alexandria (Old Town).

We appreciate the community's understanding and support as we stage these upcoming productions and share our students' talent with neighbors across Alexandria!
