Julia Temple is the newest Director of BCWS

by | Jul 6, 2022

We are happy to announce that Julia Temple has accepted our invitation to become Director of the Burgundy Center for Wildlife Studies.

Julia previously was an environmental educator at Nature’s Classroom in Andover, CT, and most recently has been a life sciences teacher at Admiral Byrd Middle School in Winchester.

Before moving to Winchester, Julia was a STEM Coordinator at Erie Day School in Erie, PA and was a Nature Conservancy LEAF program mentor working with high school interns from urban backgrounds considering careers in conservation work. Julia began her teaching career as an Americorps Fellow, teaching science and math in Hartford, CT.

Julia has a Master of Environmental Science degree from Taylor University (IN) and an undergraduate degree in Mathematics Education also from Taylor. Julia was an Adjunct Instructor and Garden Pedagogy Assistant at Taylor, where she created and delivered lectures for introductory environmental science classes.

Julia is known as a motivated and positive person. A former colleague shared, “Julia is unique in her approach to love on the whole child… Her passion for the environment and moral and ethical decisions strongly impacts her teaching style.”

An administrator noted Julia’s intelligence, poise, flexibility, and ability to roll with punches and adjust on the fly. Julia is a lifelong learner who loves learning and teaching. Julia’s highly relational teaching and leadership styles were also mentioned by a former colleague, who said: “There are a handful of people that come into your life and leave a lasting impression. Julia has been that for me.”

Julia will be working with the BCWS camps for much of this summer. Welcome to Burgundy, Julia!

Again a huge thank you and debt of gratitude to Annie, Jennifer ‘10, and David, who continue to ensure BCWS programming is going strong! Their counsel, overall know-how and know-wheres, and a good handoff of curriculum and program wisdom will be vitally helpful to Julia. They each will be extremely important resources and supports in this transition, and we thank them for that!
