Health Reminder: Tick Season
Burgundy Center for Wildlife Studies Director Vini Schoene ’73 reminds us that ticks cannot read calendars, and with some bouts of warmer weather lately they may be active earlier than usual.
Families should be more vigilant about checking their children as we enter spring and early summer. Due to licensing guidelines for the school, Burgundy staff on the Alexandria campus cannot remove ticks which have already embedded in the skin. If a child comes to the school clinic with a tick, the health coordinator will contact parents or guardians so they can attend to their child when he or she comes home. (Policies are different at the Cove, where adults do remove ticks.) Please review CDC advice on preventing tick bites, as well as finding and removing ticks.
