Physical Education Teacher

The physical education teacher works with Lower and Middle School students across a
variety of athletic and health domains. This position requires being devoted to students’
overall and physical well-being, growth, and development. The role also requires being
knowledgeable about physical education pedagogy for Lower and Middle School, the
development of children, and planning a curriculum in keeping with the mission,
philosophy, and values of the School.

Responsibilities Include

● Teach Physical Education (PE) classes for elementary and middle school,
following a thoughtfully designed and developmentally appropriate curriculum.
● Team effectively with fellow Physical Education teachers.

● Ensure the PE curriculum aligns with nationally accepted standards, incorporates
progressive educational practices, and reflects current child development.
● Make engaging, inclusive lessons that cater to various learning styles and
athletic abilities, offering exposure to a broad range of fitness activities/skills,
games, and sports.
● Foster a positive, supportive environment that promotes safe play, good
sportsmanship, and both physical and emotional growth.
● Emphasize skill development, personal improvement, and social-emotional
intelligence during competition.
● Help organize and lead school-wide physical events, such as Field Day or related
intramural activities.
● Prepare detailed lesson plans and participate in broader school responsibilities,
including curriculum development, accreditation processes, faculty meetings, and
curriculum.
● Write thoughtful and individualized student reports highlighting students’ physical,
social, and emotional development.
● After-School Coaching Responsibilities – All coaches contribute to the
after-school athletic program as coaches (additional stipends may be included).

The Ideal candidate will have:
● Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education/Kinesiology or related field preferred
● Lifeguard certification preferred
● Previous experience teaching PE to Elementary and/or Middle School students
● Coaching experience at the Middle School level

Hours:
● Arrive by 8:00 a.m., depart after 3:45 p.m. Monday through Friday. Faculty
meetings are held on Wednesdays from 3:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
○ This does not include coaching days or practice days.
● The School is closed for most national holidays, as well as Winter and Spring
Break.

Compensation:
Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience. The school offers a generous
