Part-Time Middle School Counselor

The part-time counselor position is to support the unique social-emotional needs of Middle School students. It includes both proactive work, such as meeting with advisory groups to connect and provide ideas for healthy social and emotional habits, and also responsive work, such as meeting with students who are experiencing more acute challenges. Although the counselor does not serve long-term counseling needs or work typically with more chronic issues, the counselor will maintain a small caseload related to crisis management and short-term support and can make referrals for more intensive, ongoing outside-of-school care. The counselor will serve as a resource to teachers, parents, and students alike. This position reports directly to the Middle School Head.

The qualified candidate will have:

  • Genuine love of learning and desire to work with children
  • An advanced degree/licensure in school counseling, social work, or related mental health field
  • Collaborative spirit; interest in team-teaching and planning
  • Good oral and written communication skills
  • Strong follow-up capabilities to ensure all constituents are well-informed and connected
  • Ability to connect with various types of personalities
  • Demonstrated commitment to supporting diversity, equity, and inclusivity
  • Interest in outdoor, hands-on and environmental education
  • Experience working in a diverse school setting is highly preferred

Hours:

  • This position is part-time at approximately 20 hours per week. Depending on the needs of the successful candidate, specific hours of the day or days of the week are negotiable if consistent and supportive of the community.
  • There are a few before- and after-school responsibilities and weekend events, announced well in advance.
  • The School is closed for most national holidays, as well as Winter and Spring Break.
