Burgundy Covid-19 Resources: Cohort Model

Lower School

Lower School students will be in groups no bigger than 14. Students will be in these cohort groups throughout the day. They will have classes outside or in their homerooms. Specials teachers will either teach remotely or be assigned to a limited number of cohorts at one time in order to reduce their exposure. Students will not travel to specials, rather the teachers will come to their classrooms or deliver instruction remotely via Zoom. Classes have always been in these small groupings, but would often mix with other groups (2nd and 3rd grade Viceroys or all Kindergarten students for example), but this will not be the case during Covid restrictions. If restrictions lessen through the year, students will be located next door to each other and may be able to resume at least some degree of cross grade/group mixing.

Middle School

Each grade in the Middle School, 6th, 7th and 8th, will be geographically isolated from the other grades. In addition, 6th grade will be split into two distinct cohorts and both 7th and 8th grades will be split into 3 distinct cohorts. Cohorts will not interact with other students in the same grade level or in another grade level.

Each grade-level will have 4 teachers assigned to teach the cohorts in only that particular grade. In previous years, teachers have taught multiple grade levels, this year they will be confined to one particular grade to reduce exposure and improve safety measures.
