Our spring teams have become more competitive; the teamwork throughout the school day and during games is beautiful to see, and the leadership from our 8th graders has been phenomenal.
At Burgundy we strive to support diverse learning styles and multiple intelligences by teaching in varied styles and by making accommodations and recommendations that will help provide the optimal education for each of our students. Because every child is different, sometimes providing the best possible education means modifying a child’s classroom experience, teaching methods, educational program or testing environment. Whether on campus or remote learning, our goal is to identify and accommodate the individual needs of each student while maintaining the integrity and diversity of our programs. Our team provides a range of services to identified students including individual and small group academic support, coordination with external support staff, and teacher/parent support.
Social and emotional learning is grounded in our responsive classroom and progressive educational model. From our morning meetings where students are encouraged to share their feelings and connect with each other and the group as they begin their day, to the collaborative interactions of our work groups and the carefully monitored and guided play times during breaks, emotional literacy and social support are woven into everything we do. For moments when additional social analysis and emotional support are needed short term individual and small group counseling is available. Parent guidance is also available when extra emphasis on collaboration between school and home is needed. As we embark on new ways of being and working together we will add in planned times for faculty and staff to come together for support and renewal. We are also building a bank of social emotional resources to draw on as we work together to anticipate and prepare for the support our community members, faculty and staff, students and parents will need. Children are resilient and based on past experiences we anticipate our students will respond well to the nurturing environment and of course be ready to help procure additional support as needed.
