At Burgundy we endeavor to start every year with activities that help us learn about and integrate the diverse backgrounds and cultures of our student body. The overall goal is to make every student feel welcomed and comfortable enough to learn.

In my remarks to parents of new students at the beginning of the school year, I celebrated the fact that Burgundy students, more than students I have seen at any other school, are genuinely excited to return to campus each Fall.

I had a sweet exchange with the JK Chicks (Los Pollitos) during their first Spanish class last week!

It’s the start of another school year, and in my tours through classrooms and about campus I like what I am seeing and hearing.

Hopefully you have noticed by now that Burgundy’s website has a new and improved look. What you may not realize, however, is that the newly designed website is a small part of a multi-year rebranding project.

As you are most likely aware, the hurricane damage on the islands of Abaco and Grand Bahama was devastating. Because of our relationship with the Island School on the island of Eleuthera in the Bahamas as well as with its neighboring settlement of Deep Creek, members of our community have asked how they can support relief efforts in the Bahamas.

To highlight our sustainability efforts, we have asked families to bring reusable dinnerware (plates/utensils/cups) for their own use at this Sunday’s “Taste of Burgundy”. We will have a limited supply of compostable dinnerware on hand. Interested in having a little more fun with it? Here are a few ideas of how to make the most of it along with easy and sustainable DIY projects your family could do together this weekend!

I had only crossed the Virginia/West Virginia state line a few hours earlier, but I was already desperately trying to find a cell phone signal. I was singularly focused; I needed this text to go through to my husband.

We wish we didn’t need a page of this kind on our website. We wish there was no use for it. Our children, however, are not immune to the stress, pain, and confusion that follow hate crimes and violent tragedies.

With the Burgundy Summer Day Camp entering its 4th week and the Cove Camp in its 2nd session, and the 4th of July holiday (and post fireworks deluge and flooding) in the rearview we’re officially entering mid-summer.
