Today was supposed to be the day that we all gathered together on our beautiful campus to celebrate you, our Grandparents and Special Friends.
On Earth Day—Wednesday, April 22, 2020—art teacher Annie Rocha shared this video she created. In it, she plays a Native American flute song while filming a mindful walk in nature to remind us all of the beauty and preciousness of our planet.
If we had known in advance that we’d be homebound for this long, with no certain return to life as we knew it in sight, many of us might nervously have joked that a reasonable goal for such a scenario, aside from keeping physically healthy, would be just being nice to our families!
We’ve been working hard here this week and want you to know we’re thinking of our parents and our faculty and staff along with our students, first and foremost, and recognizing that this is an enormously challenging time for everyone.
We are aware, and wanted to be sure that you are also, of the Virginia Governor’s announcement early this afternoon that Virginia K-12 schools, including independent schools, will remain closed for the remainder of the school year.
As we enter into a spring break likely very different from what any of us had planned, I wanted to give you a couple of updates relating to our response to the pandemic we are experiencing: one on the outlook for how long our remote learning and closed campus situation may persist and a second on the School’s communications role.
As most of you know, the World Health Organization (WHO) yesterday declared the COVID-19 coronavirus a global pandemic. The situation is elevating quickly as is our sense of urgency.
We are continuing precautions and planning in accordance with an evolving situation with COVID-19. This message concerns a remote learning planning day this Friday.
We are so excited for the upcoming Auction on Saturday, March 7! The donations of items and experiences have been particularly impressive this year, the Auction co-chairs have worked hard to ensure the space will be magical, and the menu this year will be extra special.
