The Burgundy Fund helps fund field trips for students throughout the year. Field trips are specially selected to enhance the curriculum that is being studied in the classrooms. Read on to learn about some of this year’s field trips so far.
Imagine it: thirty two pre- or early teens keeping track of their costumes and props, listening for their cues, and remembering their lines, the words to the songs, the steps to the dance!

Art on the Avenue (AOA) is my favorite arts event in Alexandria (and I go to lots of artsy things-—my husband plays in three different bands and sings with the Alexandria Choral Society and its select group Pro Coro) because it is a truly community-based, family-centered event, with loads of local artists, local performing groups and local restaurants.
I am a late baby boomer and when I think back on my elementary school years I am reminded of my French teacher, Madame Greenwood.

At 4 p.m. on August 30, I signed a few lawyerly papers in Romney, WV, and our mountain campus in West Virginia increased by 105 acres. It was a triumphant moment, marking a big step forward in our efforts to protect the serenity and safety of Cooper’s Cove.
At Burgundy we endeavor to start every year with activities that help us learn about and integrate the diverse backgrounds and cultures of our student body. The overall goal is to make every student feel welcomed and comfortable enough to learn.
In my remarks to parents of new students at the beginning of the school year, I celebrated the fact that Burgundy students, more than students I have seen at any other school, are genuinely excited to return to campus each Fall.
Burgundy is a one-of-a-kind independent school for Junior Kindergarten through 8th Grade. We believe children learn best in an inclusive, creative, and nurturing environment that engages the whole child.
