Art Classes
Zentangles and Mindfulness with Annie!
Friday, 3:30-4:30 p.m.
Instructor: Annie Rocha, Burgundy Art Teacher
Grades: 1st – 8th
Students Min: 6 Max: 9
Location: Burgundy Art Room
Class Fee: $420/student
We will learn how to experience mindfulness in art. We will do mindfulness exercises to improve well-being, attention, self-regulation and social competency. We will combine mindfulness with the Zentangle® method of pattern drawing! They are miniature pieces of unplanned, black and white drawings created through a very specific method from an ensemble of simple, structured patterns called tangles. The process of creating the patterns is a form of “artistic meditation” as one becomes completely absorbed in making each pattern, deliberately focusing on the pattern. The creation of patterns increases focus, creativity, and a sense of personal well-being. ALL supplies are included for our 9 weeks of fun.
SoulCollage and Poetry with Annie!
Wednesday, 3:30-4:30 p.m.
Instructor: Annie Rocha, Burgundy Art Teacher
Grades: 1st – 8th
Students Min: 6 Max: 9
Location: Burgundy Art Room
Class Fee: $465/student
SoulCollage® is a creative and fun collage and poetry process. We will make our own deck of cards—each collage card representing one aspect of our personality. It encourages students to develop and articulate self-awareness and creative expression through an integrated and experiential process that increases visual, oral and written skills. After students create a collage, they write a poem inspired by the collage. The poem consists of sentence starters to stimulate their imagination and appreciation for their many self-aspects and affective states, including the ability to name and contain them. It addresses the whole child in an engaging manner, with its focus on social, emotional and intellectual development, and its capacity to draw children into their internal selves. Students will express different parts of themselves (qualities of their personalities, feelings, interests or experiences), to honor family, friends, pets or heroes, to tell a story and much more. All supplies included for our 10 weeks of fun.

Da-Da-Da… Da-Da-Da-Dadaism! And, a sprinkle of Surrealism for added fun! Please join us for some kooky and unconventional Art classes each Thursday this fall when we look through the eyes of the Dadaists and Surrealists – artists who turned our world upside-down by making us rethink things around us. We’ll draw and paint fantastical images with oil pastels, watercolor and inks and create collage that may seem crazy or absurd, as we poke fun at the serious and conventional. Collage allows you to interact with existing materials – anything from newspapers and magazines to maps, tickets and photographs. You’ll rip them apart and reassemble them to create visually dynamic images. We’ll focus on and capture the childlike quality found in both Dada and Surreal Art forms in the masterpieces we make! You will have lots of gorgeous frameable Art by the end of our time together. Ever see Mona Lisa with a mustache or as a mermaid? Or, see a frog pedaling a unicycle? That’s the FUNtastic direction we’ll take in this dreamlike, imaginative, ARTrageous creative class! All Art supplies are nontoxic and safe for the smallest hands.
