A Note for Grandparents & Special Friends

by | Apr 24, 2020

Dear Burgundy Grandparents and Special Friends,

Good morning from your Burgundy family! Today was supposed to be the day that we all gathered together on our beautiful campus to celebrate you, our Grandparents and Special Friends. The day would begin with warm greetings and smiles at carpool, followed by a welcome breakfast to make sure we all had enough fuel to keep up with the kids. It would then be on to classroom visits where your student hosts would pridefully take you on a tour, introduce you to their teachers, and let you experience just a small part of the Burgundy they love. From there you might stop at the barn to say hi to our animals like Poppy, Angel, Franklin, or Lulu, or you might venture to the library to thumb through a favorite book. We would conclude with student performances in the Loft, highlighted by songs that tug at heart strings and fill us with hope and joy.

Like you, I feel sad when I think about missing these indelible moments. In searching for the right things to say when writing to you all this morning, I came across this quote attributed to Dolly Parton. “Storms make trees take deeper roots.” Simple yet profound, it reminds us that in moments of crisis we dig deeper and gain strength from our foundation. That foundation will always be our family and our friends, and that is the essence of what we celebrate on Grandparents and Special Friends Day. Your love and support are especially vital to your grandchildren and special young friends in times like these.

With that in mind, we have a meaningful request. Our students would get so much joy if they received a message from you! You can write a letter, a note, or record a short video that you can send to us at cc@burgundyfarm.org. The message can be directed at one student (your student), their class, or the entire Burgundy community, and we will share accordingly!

In the meantime, we are working hard to develop content to send to you that will give you a glimpse into the incredible things our students and faculty are doing with remote learning. Stay tuned for that in the coming weeks!

I will leave you with one last thing. In keeping with the “roots theme, we debuted a video in early March that speaks to the foundation that Burgundy provides and what makes this school and this community amazing!

We will be together again when this storm passes. Until then, stay healthy and stay safe!

Yours sincerely,

Matt Sahlin, Director of Advancement
