A Haven for Creative Expression
I am a firm believer that children construct, communicate and demonstrate their ideas and thoughts through many different “languages.” Children at Burgundy are fluent in the language of fine arts and this is both motivating and intimidating.
Recently, I have been intrigued with the idea of creating a more vibrant art center in our classroom. I have dreams of making this area into an atelier, a studio space inspired by the early childhood programs in Reggio Emilia, Italy. Ultimately, I hope to create a place and a space in our room, where children intentionally and joyfully work to explore and clarify their ideas and learning. Through the use of a plethora of inviting materials including traditional art supplies like paint, wire and clay, as well as, naturally sourced and upcycled items, I wish to make a haven for creative expression.
Lucky for me, the Atelier Master Class Online Course popped up on my radar and with Burgundy’s generosity, I am currently learning how to make this transformation. During this course, I will peek into 5 different ateliers from around the world and gain insights and ideas from those teachers. I am excited to offer children a beautiful space with materials to support their inquiries and thought processes while building relationships with those materials, their peers, community, and environment. I look forward to sharing our newly transformed space with the wider Burgundy community.
